Mr. Jude Atakora Tufuor holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of London, UK, a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Economic Law from the University of Warwick and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Legal Professional Skills from City University, UK specialising in International Trade Law, Banking and International Business Transactions. Jude has been called to both the English and Ghana Bars respectively. He has also been a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in the United Kingdom since 2009. He is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London and the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana (MCIT). Jude has vast experience in banking and financial markets and has advised numerous clients such as Root Capital Inc., on issues varying from loan and security instruments such as assignment of receivables, debentures, corporate guarantees. He currently advises and structures Root Capital’s loan facilities in Ghana, mainly with its clients within the Agric value chain. Further, Jude advises AV Ventures LLC, an investment management and financial advisory services entity on various issues such as investment in the pensions sector, debt finance in the agricultural and health value chain, debt finance in structured community financing. Additionally, Jude has used legal financial instruments such as hire purchase to structure transactions for clients such as Credxter for whole purchases in the public and private sectors. He advises clients from the business sector on how best transactions could be structured to minimize risk exposures and avoidable losses. Jude has advised other financial institutions such as Sustainable Impact Fund and was the key advisor in ensuring its set up, registration and establishment in Ghana. He equally saw to the development of the fund’s IT app to ensure it complied with the regulatory requirements. Jude has represented, reviewed and advised Cocoa Marketing Company (GH) Limited per its Security Agreement and Debt Collection and Conversion Agreements during its 2016/17, 2017/18 as well as the 2018/19 cocoa crop year syndicated loan of at least One billion Three Hundred Million United States Dollars (US$1,300,000,000.00). He has represented Cocoa Marketing Company (GH) Limited in international arbitration with respect to disputes over cocoa financial instruments and shipments. Jude served as the Board Secretary of Cocoa Marketing Company (GH) Limited, between 2017 and 2019 where he advised Directors and Management of the Company on a wide area of issues ranging from procurement, public financial laws, labour/industrial matters, commercial contracts, property/land, tax, among others. Jude advises companies in the oil and gas sector such as Akwaaba Refinery, a private refinery in Ghana. He advises some entities in the downstream petroleum sector, who are mainly in the business of procuring, transporting and delivering petroleum products. He is currently the Board Secretary of RikAir Company Limited, the leading company in the business of oxygen and argon production in Ghana for delivery of same in the medical, oil and gas, and mining space respectively. Jude is currently a part-time commercial law lecturer/convener at Central University and has taught subjects, which includes banking and finance laws, business laws since the inception of the Law Faculty. He has written articles on syndicated loans with regard to the cocoa industry in Ghana, sale of goods, bills of lading and also on admissible evidence. He is the co-author of the leading book on commercial law, Atakora and Attakora on Sale of Goods, published in 2020 by Lexis Nexis, a world leading publisher in the legal fraternity. Jude has a strong interest in procurement, banking, financial and loan security laws, International trade sales, international Arbitration and carriage of goods. His other areas of research include the laws of evidence and taxation.
